SPINS Meeting
2 - 4 June, Sheffield, UK
The first Solar Physics International Network for Swirls, SPINS meeting will be held at the University of Sheffield from June 2nd to 4th, 2025.
It will be the first scientific gathering exclusively focused on the study of solar vortices, aiming to understand how they are formed, their influence on magnetic fields, and their connection to solar activity.
Key topics of the meeting include:
Examining Observational Data: Exploring the connections between vortex signatures in the chromosphere and energy distribution.
Investigating Coherent Structures: Understanding their role in the solar atmosphere.
Assessing Magnetic Field Dynamics: Analysing how vortical motions impact magnetic fields, including the excitation of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves and the creation of twisted magnetic flux tubes.
Mechanism Identification: Identifying the processes behind vortex creation and destruction.
Impact on Solar Activity: Evaluating the role of vortices in sunspot dynamics and their contribution to generating strong solar flares.
